The Rufous Treepie (Dendrocitta vagabunda) is a bold, long-tailed member of the crow family, widely recognized as one of the most charismatic birds in Ranthambore. It features a smoky-grey head, a rich cinnamon-rufous body, and striking silver-grey wing patches. Its long, graduated tail is tipped with black, creating a distinct silhouette in flight. The rufous treepie is primarily an arboreal omnivore feeding on invertebrates, small reptiles and the eggs and young of birds, seeds and fruits. Its vocalizations are incredibly varied, ranging from harsh metallic scolds to melodious, flute-like whistles that echo through the dry deciduous forest.
