The Alexandrine parakeet (Psittacula eupatria) is a medium-sized parrot, native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. Named after Alexander the Great, who transported numerous birds to various European and Mediterranean countries and regions. This parrot is easily identified by its massive, deep-red bill and a prominent maroon shoulder patch on each wing. Adult males possess a distinct black neck ring and a pinkish-red nape band that females lack. The Alexandrine parakeet is one of the largest parakeets, measuring 56 to 62 cm from the top of the head to the tip of the tail and weighing 200 to300 g. The tail measures 28 to 35 cm.
