Indian Scops Owl (Otus Bakkamoena) | Ranthambore National Park - Rajasthan, India (Part II) (IMG_3435.jpg)

Indian Scops Owl (Otus Bakkamoena)

While they occasionally hunt small rodents or lizards, the Indian Scops Owls are predominantly insectivorous, deftly snatching beetles and moths from the air. By occupying small tree hollows, they remain protected from larger predators, acting as quiet guardians of the woodland’s ecosystem. In the dry forests of Ranthambore, these owls are primarily heard rather than seen. Their signature call - a rhythmic, upward-inflected "whuk?" - serves as the heartbeat of the jungle after sunset.
