The Indian Shikra (Tachyspiza badia dussumieri) is a small, fierce raptor that epitomizes the spirit of the Indian jungle. This subspecies is the most common resident across the plains and lower hills of India, including Ranthambore. It is easily recognized by its sharp, two-note "pee-wee" call and its striking sexual dimorphism: males possess deep, ruby-red eyes, while females display vibrant orange-yellow irises.
