The Siberian stonechat (Saxicola maurus indicus) is a small, insectivorous bird and a common winter visitor across the Indian Subcontinent. This subspecies is particularly notable for its upright posture while perched on low bushes or tall grasses. Males in breeding plumage possess a striking black head, white collar, and a vibrant orange-red breast, though this often appears more subdued and brownish during the winter months. Females and juveniles are more cryptically colored with buff-brown tones. They are frequently found in open habitats like scrublands and agricultural fields.
