Red-Vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus Cafer)
The red-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer) is a conspicuous and energetic bird native to the Indian Subcontinent. It is easily identified by its scaly-patterned, smoky-brown plumage, a stylish black crest, and the signature bright red patch under its tail (the vent). Its white rump is particularly visible during its characteristic fluttering flight. Highly adaptable, these birds flourish in diverse environments, from dry scrub to suburban gardens. They are vocal and social, often seen in pairs or small groups foraging for fruits, nectar, and insects. In the wild, they serve as an alarm system, alertly scolding predators with sharp, chattering calls.
