The little egret (Egretta garzetta) is a slender, snow-white heron known for its elegant profile and black bill. It is easily distinguished by its long, black legs and contrasting "golden slippers" - bright yellow feet that it uses to stir up aquatic prey. During the breeding season, adults develop two long, lanceolate plumes on the nape and delicate, lace-like feathers on the back and chest. These egrets are highly adaptable, inhabiting lakes, marshes, and riverbanks. In flight, they tuck their necks into an "S" shape, appearing graceful and aerodynamic. They are primarily piscivorous but also consume amphibians, crustaceans, and insects.
