The plum-headed parakeet (Psittacula cyanocephala) is a parrot endemic to the Indian Subcontinent, smaller and more slender than its cousins. It is named for the male’s iridescent head, which transitions from deep plum to purplish-blue, accented by a narrow black neck ring. Females lack the ring possessing a subtle bluish-grey head. Both sexes feature a lime-green body and a signature white-tipped, long blue tail. They fly swiftly with twists and turns accompanied by distinctive calls. They often congregate near fruiting trees to feed on blossoms and seeds. This parakeet is 33-37 cm long weighing 55-85 g, with a tail length up to 22 cm.
