Medium Egret (Ardea Intermedia) | Ranthambore National Park - Rajasthan, India (Part II) (IMG_5455.jpg)

Medium Egret (Ardea Intermedia)

The medium egret (Ardea intermedia), median egret, smaller egret or intermediate egret is a graceful, all-white heron that often poses an identification challenge for birdwatchers. Found frequently in the wetlands of Ranthambore, it is medium-sized, standing roughly 56-72 cm tall with a 105-115 cm wingspan and weighs 400 g . Key identifiers include its yellow bill, which typically has a dark tip, and its black legs and feet. They are active hunters, stalking fish and frogs in shallow water or grassy marshes. Their elegant, slender neck remains coiled in an "S" shape while standing, ready to strike prey with surgical precision.
