The green sandpiper (Tringa ochropus) is a solitary and wary wader, frequently visiting the wetlands of the Indian Subcontinent during winter. It is characterized by its dark, olive-brown upperparts finely speckled with white, contrasting sharply with its clean white underparts. In flight, it displays a prominent white rump and dark underwings, making it easy to distinguish from similar sandpipers. Commonly found near small, shaded pools, ditches, and forest streams. When disturbed, it takes flight with a rapid, zigzagging motion, emitting a loud call. The green sandpiper is primarily carnivorous, consisting of a wide variety of small invertebrates.
