The bronze-winged jacana (Metopidius indicus) is a striking wader found across the wetlands of the Indian Subcontinent. It is immediately recognizable by its dark, metallic-bronze wings, iridescent black body, and a broad white stripe behind each eye. Its most extraordinary feature, however, is its exceptionally long, thin toes. These oversized feet act like snowshoes, distributing the bird's weight so it can walk effortlessly atop floating lily pads and lotus leaves, earning it the nickname "lily-trotter". Inhabiting large, vegetation-rich lakes and ponds, these birds forage for insects and aquatic seeds.
