Indian Boar (Sus scrofa cristatus), Ranthambore National Park

Indian boars are the "bulldozers" of the forest. Armed with razor-sharp, ever-growing tusks, they are highly territorial and can be exceptionally fierce when cornered, capable of fending off leopards and even young tigers. As omnivores, they play a vital ecological role by tilling the soil with their snouts while searching for roots, tubers, and insects, which promotes forest regeneration. In places like Ranthambore, they are a high-energy food source for apex predators, though hunting them is a risky endeavor due to their thick hides and aggressive counter-attacks.
