Greater Indian Fruit Bat (Pteropus Medius)

The Indian Flying Fox (Pteropus medius), also known as Greater Indian Fruit Bat, is one of the largest bat species in the world, boasting an impressive wingspan that can reach up to 1.5 meters. Despite the "fox" in its name, earned from its long snout and reddish-brown fur, it is a dedicated frugivore, playing a vital role in tropical ecosystems through seed dispersal and pollination. Unlike many smaller bats, Pteropus medius does not use echolocation; instead, it relies on its sharp nocturnal vision and sense of smell to locate ripening fruit and nectar during its nocturnal travels.
