Male Nilgai (Boselaphus tragocamelus)

The Nilgai (Boselaphus tragocamelus), or "Blue Bull", is the largest antelope in Asia and a fixture of the Indian landscape. These sturdy animals are easily identified by their sloping backs and thin legs. Adult males are particularly striking, sporting a bluish-grey coat and short, conical horns, while females and calves are a lighter tawny brown. Living in small herds, Nilgai are primarily diurnal and remarkably adaptable, thriving in both scrub forests and agricultural fields. Its diet encompasses grasses and herbs, though it also eats woody plants in the dry tropical forests of India.
