The grey francolin (Ortygornis pondicerianus) is a species of francolin found in the plains and drier parts of the Indian subcontinent and Iran. They are mainly ground-living birds and are found in open cultivated lands as well as scrub forest. Distinguished by its finely barred, sandy-brown plumage and a pale throat encircled by a thin black border, it is a master of camouflage in scrublands and agricultural fields. This bird is a medium-sized francolin, with males averaging 29-34 cm and females 26-30 cm. Males weigh 260-340 g, while females weigh 200-310 g. Food includes seeds, grains, and insects, particularly termites and beetles.
