Asian Black-Winged Kite (Elanus Caeruleus Vociferus)

The Asian black-winged kite (Elanus caeruleus vociferus) is a small, elegant raptor widespread across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is easily identified by its striking white and pale grey plumage, distinctive black "shoulder" patches, and piercing red eyes. A master of the air, it is often seen hovering over open grasslands and agricultural fields while searching for prey. Primarily hunting rodents, small birds, and large insects, this kite utilizes a sudden vertical drop to seize its target. Highly territorial, it frequently perches on high-voltage wires or bare treetops, defending its hunting grounds with sharp, whistling calls.
