Jawai Bandh Leopard Conservation Reserve, Rajasthan, India
In August and September 2025, Rajasthan experienced severe monsoon activity that led to critical flooding across several districts, with the Jawai Dam area being a focal point of concern in Western Rajasthan. The situation was characterized by record-breaking rainfall that filled the state's largest reservoirs to capacity, necessitating emergency water releases. For the first time in eight years, the gates of the Jawai Dam (the largest in Western Rajasthan) were opened to manage overflowing water levels. The release of over 2000 cubic meters per second of water caused immediate flood-like situations in the downstream districts of Jalore and Pali.
