Artwork on a Wall, Etihad Museum, Dubai, UAE
The painting, by Emirati artist Abdul Qader Al Rais, features a stylized map of the UAE depicted in vivid yellow, blue and brown tones, recalling the nation's sweeping sand dunes, clear blue seas and rugged mountains. The left of the canvas is dedicated to the desert, depicting a palm tree trunk that symbolizes sustenance, endurance, and the powerful life-force that allows plants, animals and even humans to survive and thrive in the desert. The right side features the names of the seven Emirates that were unified to make up the UAE. At the very center of the masterpiece is the word 'Unity'. The names of the Founding Fathers who signed the 1971 'Union Agreement' and brought the nation into being, appear on the left.
