Khanjar, The Wilfred Thesiger Exhibition, Al Jahili Fort, Al Ain
These two daggers are coastal Emirati daggers, which are distinguished from other daggers in the Arabian Peninsula by their small scabbards and sharp angles. Men wear them over the kandoora on a belt around their waist (sabta). This is woven from cotton or made of leather and is manually embroidered with gold or silver thread, sometimes with zari thread of bright yellow silk yarn. The khanjar can be worn as a defensive or as a decorative weapon.
