Dune 45, Sossusvlei, Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia
Dune 45 is so called because it lies 45 km past Sesriem on the road to Sossusvlei. Standing over 170 m, it is composed of 5-million-year-old sand that is detritus accumulated by the Orange River from the Kalahari Desert and then blown here. It gained popularity among visitors (both climbers and photographers) mainly because it is near the road.
