Herd of Zebus along Unpaved National Road 13 (RN 13), Anosy, Madagascar

Route nationale 13 (RN 13) is a primary highway in Madagascar of 493 km, running from Ihosy to Tolagnaro (Fort-Dauphin). It crosses the regions of Ihorombe, Androy and Anosy. It is completely unpaved between Ihosy and Ambovombe, paved but in bad shape between Ambovombe and Tolagnaro. The zebu is a species or subspecies of domestic cattle originating in the Indian sub-continent. Zebu are characterised by a fatty hump on their shoulders, a large dewlap, and sometimes drooping ears. They are well adapted to withstanding high temperatures. Zebu are used as draught and riding animals, dairy cattle, and beef cattle.
