Primarily terrestrial and diurnal, these monitors are exceptional climbers and swimmers. They are opportunistic carnivores, using their forked tongues to "smell" prey such as insects, rodents, and snakes. Despite their size, they are remarkably agile and can outrun most predators over short distances.
