Chital Herd, Ranthambore National Park
In ecosystems like Ranthambore, Chital are a vital "link species". They share a fascinating symbiotic relationship with Langur monkeys; the monkeys drop fruit and leaves from the canopy for the deer, while the deer rely on the monkeys' high vantage point for alarm calls. They live in large herds and are a primary prey source for Bengal tigers. Their survival depends on their keen senses and incredible agility, as they can reach speeds of up to 65 km/h to evade predators. Their presence is often the first indicator of a nearby tiger, as their sharp, barking "alarm call" echoes through the jungle to warn the herd of approaching danger.
