Northern Plains Gray Langur (Semnopithecus entellus)

The northern plains gray langur (Semnopithecus entellus), also known as the sacred langur, Bengal sacred langur, and Hanuman langur, is a primate deeply woven into the spiritual and ecological fabric of India. Named after the Hindu deity Hanuman, these monkeys are easily identified by their silvery-gray fur, athletic build, and coal-black faces framed by a fringe of white hair. They are among the largest monkeys in Asia, with males standing roughly 75 cm tall and weighing up to 18 kg, while the more slender females usually weigh around 11 kg.
