Monument to the Fisherman's wife, Lloret de Mar, Costa Brava, Catalonia
Since it was erected in 1966 to commemorate Lloret de Mar's Millennium, the Dona Marinera (Fisherman's Wife) has become one of the most emblematic symbols of the town.
This bronze sculpture, created by Ernest Maragall, stands on the rock at the end of Lloret beach and represents the figure of a woman looking out to sea in greeting or welcome. The sculpture, entitled "The Venus of Lloret", gives the Lloret coastline an element of great beauty and quality. Legend has it that whoever touches the foot of the sculpture while looking out at the horizon, will have their wish come true.
